Travel around Bohol with Bobby

I decided to visit Bohol because I had heard so much about its natural wonders and rich culture. The idea of seeing the Chocolate Hills up close was something I couldn’t resist, plus I wanted to meet the famous tarsiers at the sanctuary. I’m always drawn to places that offer a mix of adventure and relaxation, and Bohol has both in abundance. From the pristine beaches of Panglao to the peaceful Loboc River Cruise, it seemed like the perfect destination to explore nature and unwind. The friendly locals and delicious food were just added bonuses that made the trip unforgettable!

Day 1The Breathtaking Chocolate Hills and Meeting Tarsiers Up Close

My adventure kicked off with a visit to the famous Chocolate Hills, and let me just say—pictures don’t do them justice. The ride to the viewing deck was an adventure in itself, with winding roads leading me to over 1,200 perfectly shaped hills stretching as far as the eye can see. These hills, which turn chocolate-brown during the dry season, are truly one of nature’s most bizarre and beautiful creations. I spent a good hour just soaking in the view, snapping pictures, and wondering how something so unique could exist.

After the Chocolate Hills, I couldn’t resist heading over to the Tarsier Sanctuary. These tiny creatures are even more adorable in person! The sanctuary is all about conservation, and seeing the tarsiers up close in their natural habitat was an eye-opening experience. I learned that they’re nocturnal, so they were pretty sleepy, but catching a glimpse of their huge, soulful eyes was worth it.

For lunch, I stopped by a local spot called Gerarda’s Restaurant in Tagbilaran City, where I indulged in a plate of Lechon Kawali—crispy pork belly that was absolutely delicious. Afterward, I wandered around the city a bit, admiring the old Spanish architecture, particularly at Baclayon Church, one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.

By the end of Day 1, I checked into Henann Resort Alona Beach, a gorgeous beachfront property in Panglao. The sunset view from my balcony was the perfect way to wind down after a day of exploration.

If you want a taste of Bohol’s iconic attractions, start with the Chocolate Hills and the Tarsier Sanctuary. And don’t forget to try the local Lechon—it’s a must!

Day 2River Cruises and Thrills Adventure

The next morning, I started my day with the peaceful Loboc River Cruise. It’s a relaxing boat ride along the Loboc River, where you’re treated to lush greenery on both sides and a buffet of local delicacies. There was also live music and traditional Filipino performances on board, which added a nice cultural touch. It was a perfect way to experience the quieter, more laid-back side of Bohol.

From the river, I was in the mood for something a bit more adventurous, so I headed to the Loboc Eco-Tourism Adventure Park. Now, this is where the adrenaline junkie in me came alive! They’ve got an epic zipline that takes you soaring over the river with a bird’s-eye view of the jungle below. It’s the kind of rush that makes you appreciate just how wild and beautiful this island is.

Lunch was at Bohol Bee Farm, where I opted for their famous organic Honey Glazed Chicken and a side of fresh garden salad. The food was fantastic, and everything was sustainably sourced, which made the meal taste even better.

For dinner, I returned to Alona Beach and checked out Tarsier Paprika, a fine-dining restaurant known for its fusion of Filipino and international cuisine. The seafood here was top-notch, especially the grilled prawns.

Bohol isn’t just about relaxing—it’s got a wild side too! Don’t miss the Loboc River Cruise for a serene experience, but definitely add the zipline to your list if you’re seeking thrills.

Day 3Island Hopping and Beach Bumming in Panglao

Day 3 was all about Panglao Island and its world-famous beaches. I started with an island-hopping tour, visiting Balicasag Island and the nearby Virgin Island. Balicasag is a diver’s paradise, and while I didn’t dive this time, the snorkeling was incredible. The coral reefs were teeming with colorful fish, and I even spotted a few sea turtles! Virgin Island, on the other hand, is a stunning sandbar that disappears at high tide. Walking on the white sands in the middle of the turquoise waters felt like being on a private island.

Back on the main island, I spent the rest of the afternoon lounging at Alona Beach, which was vibrant and lively. There’s plenty of beachfront bars, perfect for grabbing a cocktail and watching the world go by. I also rented a motorbike to explore the island a bit more at my own pace, which was a fun and affordable way to see Panglao.

For my final meal in Bohol, I went to The Buzzz Café, known for its organic, healthy meals. Their ice cream made from local honey is a must-try and was the perfect way to cap off my last day on this beautiful island.

If you love the beach and water activities, dedicate a day to island hopping and beach bumming. The islands around Panglao are stunning, and Alona Beach is the perfect place to end the day with a cocktail in hand.

Summary of My Trip

My time in Bohol was nothing short of incredible. From the moment I saw the majestic Chocolate Hills to the peaceful cruise along the Loboc River, I knew this place was special. The island’s ability to blend adventure and relaxation is what truly stood out to me. One moment I was ziplining over lush forests, and the next I was sipping a cocktail by the beach. The locals were warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile or a helpful tip. The food—especially the Lechon and fresh seafood—was another highlight, offering a real taste of the local culture. Whether it was exploring historic churches or snorkeling alongside sea turtles, every day brought something new. Bohol has this unique charm that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in. If you’re someone who loves a mix of nature, adventure, and relaxation, this island should be at the top of your list. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
